Maryam Safdar Ali is an Articling Student at Avanessy Giordano LLP. Maryam is a graduate of the University of Ottawa, Common Law Faculty (Class of 2019). Prior to law school, she received her Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Law & Society and Human Rights & Equity Studies from York University, where she graduated with Distinction.
While in law school, Maryam completed numerous internships and worked in various clinics, including working at the Employment Insurance Clinic, Sponsorship Support Program Pro Bono Clinic, Refugee & Criminal law Clinic as well as the Refugee Hub. Maryam loves helping people and is passionate about human rights and achieving justice for her clients.
Maryam also has extensive volunteer experience, including serving as a “Youth Mentor” with the Women’s Portfolio within her community. Through her work and volunteer experience, Maryam has learned to recognize and appropriately address clients’ needs from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
Maryam has received various academic awards and achievements, including Lieutenant Governor’s Community Volunteer Award, Queen Elizabeth Scholarship and Golden Key International Honour Society, which is awarded to the top 15% post-secondary students.
Outside of work, Maryam’s interests include cooking, travelling, listening to music, watching movies and spending time with family & friends.
Maryam is fully bilingual in English and Farsi (Dari & Persian).
